We’re gathering the perspectives of community members, youth, and caregivers on community assets, barriers, and goals for children’s success. We are still surveying the community and would like to hear your thoughts!
South San Francisco Outreach has Begun!
June 6th marked the first Neighborhood Leadership Group (NLG) for South San Francisco –a local group of leaders that will help shape the outreach and outcomes for the community plans to support children’s success locally. Over 30 participants worked together to identify community assets—places young people are creative, meet with supportive adults, learn new skills, and meet basic needs. Attendees were from youth support organizations, county and city agencies, the library, the school district, and community programs.
New Resources on Community Trauma Inform Our Work
The CCCS initiative is a trauma-informed effort to support children’s success in the places where they are most challenged. We have spent a lot of time thinking about the community-level trauma that many children face on a daily basis. Fostering community resilience is an important aspect of addressing community-level trauma.
Update from California Conference of Local Health Officers Adverse Childhood Events Conference
Research linking the incidence of childhood traumatic experiences and poor health outcomes later in life is well documented in the medical community. In a large 1997 study known as the ACEs study (for Adverse Childhood Experiences), researchers found that childhood abuse and neglect leads to poor health, running the gamut from increased risk factors such as smoking and drug use to an increased chance of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
North Fair Oaks/Redwood City’s First Neighborhood Leadership Group Convenes
On the evening of May 24th at the Fair Oaks Community Center, residents and stakeholders gathered to discuss the opportunities and challenges that face young people in the North Fair Oaks/ Redwood City community. The event marked the first local meeting of the Community Collaboration for Children’s Success initiative and was an opportunity for people who intimately understand the challenges facing young people in the area to share their knowledge of local resources and assets as well as weigh in on the best ways forward.
Community Collaboration for Children’s Success Has Launched

The CCCS project is a community planning effort working with young people and their families to identify assets, barriers to success and potential interventions to help bolster youth success in targeted neighborhoods in the county. Two factors were used to identify areas for community planning: a Youth Need Index, shown in the map above in red, and a Youth Planning Readiness Index, shown in blue. The colors are darker in higher scoring areas, and areas with high scores for both are shown in purple.
Contractor Selected for CCCS Project

Get Healthy SMC is pleased to announce that a contractor has been selected for the Community Collaboration for Children’s Success project! Raimi + Associates will conduct neighborhood planning, work with youth to identify barriers to success, and determine interventions to improve outcomes for the most vulnerable youth in San Mateo County. Raimi + Associates will lead the place-based, trauma-informed planning initiative using innovative outreach approaches, art, and deep community engagement.
