Walk Together for Justice and Diversity!

Post

Fifth graders from Martin Elementary school in South San Francisco were deeply inspired by Ruby Bridges’ bravery and resilience to desegregate an all-white school in New Orleans at the tender age of 6. Their efforts to honor the legacy of this young civil rights icon led to November 14th being proclaimed as Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in California. Students from several schools in San Mateo County walked together to school to celebrate diversity and justice on Nov 17th. San Mateo County Health supports San Mateo County of Office of Education in encouraging and supporting safe walking and biking to school through the various Safe Routes to School program initiatives.
