Voters Approve Increasing Bridge Tolls for Transportation Improvements

Post

Regional Measure 3 (RM3) passed in the June primary election with 55% of the Bay Area voters saying yes to increasing bridge tolls for transportation funding. The measure will go into effect on January 1, 2019. The bridge tolls will go up $3 over the next six years at the seven state-owned bridges in the Bay Area. The measure will still allow for the current carpool discounts and a commute discount of 50% if passing over two of the bridges during commute hours. The toll increase is expected to generate over $4 billion to be used on transportation improvements. These improvements are outlined in the expenditure plan and show eight projects listed for the San Mateo-Hayward and Dumbarton area, including Dumbarton Corridor improvements and Highway 101 and 84 interchange reconstruction.
