Suspension Rates Are Declining, And That’s Good for Kids

Post

Schools across the county continue to reduce the number of students they suspend. While this reduction in suspensions is good because students are staying in school to continue to learn rather than being excluded, there continues to be disparities in suspensions of African American, Latinx, and special needs students. See how your school or district is doing with regards to equity in school discipline on the CA Department of Education’s California School Dashboard. Restorative Justice Practices (RJP) is one strategy schools are using to improve school discipline and reduce suspensions and expulsions. Check out our recently published guide to learn more about RJP and how your school/district can plan for successful implementation.
