Strengthening Youth Voices in Local Governance

Post

The CCCS Racial Equity Action Subcommittee identified building a more diversified pipeline into boards and commissions as a key area of action to advance racial equity, which led to the creation of a youth civic empowerment and health training program for San Mateo County. There are two cohorts of youth (ages 15-25) currently engaged in the trainings offered by Youth Leadership Institute and Daly City Youth Health Center. To ensure that on the systems side city and county governing bodies are prepared to welcome and support meaningful youth participation, Get Healthy SMC and our partners are hosting a webinar on November 15th on why youth civic empowerment is integral to healthy communities, and how young people can play policy advocacy roles in government. Please follow us on social media for updates and registration info, coming in the first week of November. You may also contact Mai Le at mle@smcgov.org for more information.
