Safe Parking Policies Are Good for Health

Post

Affordable and stable housing options are key public health strategies during the pandemic. Safe Parking policies and programs enable residents who rely on RVs as their main roof over their heads and primary mode of mobility to find a stable place to live in. When Safer Parking policies are implemented with support for residents to access permanent housing options, they can be a powerful tool to provide long-term stable housing for vulnerable residents. Early this year Redwood City approved a two-year safe parking program, and East Palo Alto has been partnering with We Hope, a non-profit that provides support to the unsheltered population since 2019 to provide safe parking options for RV dwellers. Other jurisdictions such as Pacifica are exploring options as to how best to support RV dwellers.
