Public Health 101 Workshops Launched!

Post

February was a month of learning and sharing. Community residents and many Promotoras/Outreach workers across the County had the chance to learn about the basic functions of Public Health. Learnings also included the difference between upstream, midstream, and downstream drivers of health.

Participants also got to share their community’s needs around public health issues. They then brainstormed ways to get more involved in public health to address those needs.  Here are a few comments from workshop participants:

“I came to this workshop not knowing about public health. The trainers shared the topics in a way that made them easy to understand.”

“It helps me to understand the focus and priorities of public health. Now, I know how to avoid frustration and save time.”

“More of the public and community would benefit from this session.”

Thank you to El Concilio de San Mateo, ALAS, and Healthways for their partnership!

If you know a community group that would benefit from this workshop, please contact Deandra Lee at dlee1@smcgov.org.
