Daly City and East Palo Alto’s Strategies for Children’s Success

Post

This month, the two communities of East Palo Alto and Daly City held their third Neighborhood Leadership Group meetings to prioritize top strategies to support children and families’ success. Draft plans will be compiled over the next month for review in the final community meetings on May 7 (EPA) and May 13 (Daly City).

In Daly City, top strategies included expanding safe and supportive places for children and families to spend time, changing disciplinary policies to keep kids in schools, and improving trauma awareness and responsiveness for public-facing staff in community-serving institutions. In East Palo Alto, top strategies included connecting young people with supportive adults at school, providing opportunities for children to learn about their cultural backgrounds and the history of their communities, and providing professional development opportunities for school staff on trauma-informed approaches.
