County Scorecard of Children’s Well-Being

Post

Children Now recently released their 2020-21 California County Scorecard of Children’s Well-Being. The Scorecard is a tool that provides data on how kids are doing in all 58 counties in California and tracks key indicators of child and adolescent well-being, by race and ethnicity. While San Mateo County ranks high in most indicators, there are troubling data points that we must work to address. In San Mateo County only 35% of students reported not feeling safe at school and 39% of students reported not feeling connected to their school. When you drill down and look at the data by race/ethnicity, you see that black and Latinx students score lower than these averages. This data continues to make a compelling case for increasing an emphasis on strategies like Restorative Justice Practices to improve school climate and student success.
