Center for Disease Control (CDC) & Eviction Moratoriums

Post

President Biden signed an executive order requesting the CDC extend their eviction moratorium on his first day in office. The CDC followed by extending the moratorium through at least March 31st. This extension could help households struggling financially stay in their homes, while also helping mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Research out of UCLA shows that after 16 weeks, states that lifted eviction moratoriums had about two times as many cases than those that kept their eviction moratorium. In addition, the research found that the coronavirus mortality rates jumped after eviction moratoriums were lifted. The states that lifted their moratoriums have 5.4 times higher mortality rate.
