California Schools Continue to Face Teacher Shortages

Post

Teachers play an important role in ensuring students receive a high-quality education. A worsening teacher shortage is affecting school districts across San Mateo County and the state. Low-wages and high cost of living are just some of the factors that make it difficult for schools to hire and retain qualified teachers in San Mateo County. Superintendent Anne Campbell has been working with other administrators and researchers to identify strategies to increase recruitment and retention of a qualified and diverse school workforce. Research suggests the problem affects urban, suburban, and rural districts and that in order to ensure a stable workforce the state and districts will need to make significant changes to training and recruitment.
