Building Bridges to Improve Safety When Walking or Biking

Post

Students are healthier when they have safe active transportation choices such as walking or riding their bikes to school. Policies like Vision Zero that includes a goal to eliminate traffic deaths through investing in capital improvements such as safer street design are critical elements in promoting safe and active transportation. Through a partnership with the County Office of Education, Get Healthy SMC hosted over 20 leaders in local transportation and Safe Routes to School to discuss the findings of our latest report. It was a forum for elementary school principals and Safe Routes to School coordinators to connect with their city transportation staff counterparts. The group heard about upcoming active transportation grants and connected with each other on how to improve walking and biking through education, encouragement, and engineering.
