Thousands of Bay Area commuters bike to work

Pod

May 10 was bike to work day, and across our county, thousands of commuters woke up and made the healthy choice by biking to work. It wasn’t too hard to get more people on their bikes because almost 40% of Bay Area commuters live within 5 miles of work. This is a bikeable distance for even inexperienced cyclists.

The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition predicts that if every person living within 5 miles of work ditched their cars, more than 60,000 vehicles would be off the road each day. This would reduce congestion, and it would reduce tailpipe emissions by more than 150,000 pounds.
