SNAP-Ed Program Update
Legislation signed into law on July 4, 2025, eliminates the Supplemental Nutrition Education Program (SNAP-Ed) known as CalFresh Healthy Living (CFHL) in California. CFHL has a long history of working with schools, grocery stores, food pantries, hospitals, and churches across the state including San Mateo County. In San Mateo County, the CFHL team is part of the Public Health, Policy & Planning Division of San Mateo County Health, the work supported by the CFHL grant includes Safe Routes to School, Park and Recreation Rx, farm to school, nutrition education and physical activity training. Over the next few months, we will be sharing quotes and stories from our partners to highlight the great work that this grant has supported.
“The number one most valuable part of participating in the Champion Provider Fellowship over the last eight years has definitely been working with the CalFresh Healthy Living team. Their networks and knowledge of the existing local policy and organizational landscape have been critical to my efforts to improve child and community health, to prescribe nature, and to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for all families.” - Dr. Sharon DiPierro, Ravenswood Family Clinic
