Learnings from Healthcare Anchor Network Spring 2021 Convening

Post

HPP staff joined the Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) Virtual Spring 2021 Convening Leads Summit earlier this month to learn more about the future direction of the network and how to bolster our department’s focus on advancing the anchor model. The anchor institutions concept is a strategy for equitable economic development that leverages the hiring, investments, and procurement power of public institutions to provide benefits to local underserved communities – read more about the model here. This year’s HAN convening included leaders from healthcare agencies across the U.S. who offered their best practices, tools, and strategies for embedding and institutionalizing the anchor mission as well as frameworks for how and why this work is fundamental to advancing racial equity.  Participating in HAN further supports our healthcare system in strengthening our progress and commitment to leverage our institutional powers that improve the well-being and health of economically disadvantaged communities in San Mateo County.
