Climate Ready SMC Highlights Disparate Health Impacts of Climate Change

Post

Earlier this month, over 140 people gathered to learn about how the climate is increasingly affecting our communities and specifically impacting our health. Speakers from the state Office of Health Equity and the Greenlining Institute outlined their strategies to ensure equity in our climate planning. Our Deputy Director, Srija Srinivasan, provided an opening presentation that showcased County Health’s commitment to the community conditions that impact health, health equity, and our support for getting ahead of the climate challenges that will have deep and lasting health issues. Community leaders also led a discussion on how climate is already disparately affecting our most vulnerable communities. This convening wrapped up another successful year of the Climate Ready SMC collaborative. Moving forward, the collaborative will develop an action plan and remains committed to the Climate Emergency declaration that the SMC Board of Supervisors made last month.
