Nutrition Curricula
Health Environment Agriculture Learning Project (HEAL) is a unique, hands on, award-winning program that instills healthy lifestyle habits in elementary school children while inspiring environmental and agricultural awareness through a comprehensive, interactive curriculum. Thanks to consistent support from Kaiser Permanente, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and the Hatch Parent Teacher Organization, HEAL will benefit over 600 students in the Cabrillo Unified School District in San Mateo County this year.
Click to view study that assessed the impact of the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) nutrition curriculum on improving the nutrition and health knowledge and vegetable preferences of second grade children. Second graders and their parents in three schools in San Mateo County participated in the study. The Task Force provided partial funding for this study.

Fruit and Vegetable Fun, by Produce for a Better Health includes coloring pages you can print out and color, tools to track your intake of fruits and vegetables, information about produce department tour in supermarkets, and others resources. Information for children 2-7 and K-6 on this site.
Produce for Better Health Foundation, Dole, and Crayola brand designed There's a Rainbow on My Plate curriculum. Targeted to students in grades K-6, this curriculum has lessons about fruits and vegetables and the roles they play in maintaining good health.
The Edible Schoolyard, in collaboration with Martin Luther King Junior Middle School in Berkeley, CA, provides urban public school students with a one-acre organic garden and a kitchen classroom. Site describes how they started their garden and includes classroom lessons, kitchen lessons, and more.
The Power of Choice was developed by Health and Human Services' Food and Drug Administration and USDA's Food and Nutrition Service. Intended for afterschool program leaders, there is a Leaders' Guide which includes activity materials, a recipe booklet, parent letter, nutrition fact cards, and a CD with 10 interactive sessions.
Physical Activity Curricula
FitFun Game Guide, developed by the Redwood City School District Wellness committee, is a physical activity resource for K-5 classroom teachers.
PlayWorks provides a variety of age-appropriate activities developed to bring out the best in kids - on the playground and in the classroom. We use time-tested games like kickball and four square to engage kids in positive play - all coached by an enthusiastic and well-trained adult who loves their job and knows how to connect with kids. Our programs run throughout the school year, all day, every day and include: recess and class game time; after-school sports, games and supervised playtime; sports leagues and leadership training.
Healthy Hearts is full of fun learning activities about cardiovascular health. Kids can find out more about physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco use while completing interactive learning games, quizzes, writing activities and math problems, and more! Kids can earn points and win prizes for participating.
SPARK (Sports, Play and Active Recreation for Kids) Program has curricula for elementary, middle and high school physical education.
Do More Watch Less is a 2 - 2 1/2 month curricula to help youth incorporate more screen-free activities into their free time while reducing the time they spend on screen-based activities such as watching TV, surfing the internet, and playing video games. BAM! Body and Mind serves as an aid to teachers, providing them with interactive, educational, and fun activities that are linked to national education standards for science and health set by the National Research Council, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Joint Committee for National School Health Education Standards. Includes links to handouts for teachers, activities you can do with youth, etc.
Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge by Action for Healthy Kids is a year-long program that challenges America’s youth, their families and schools to incorporate healthy food choices and physical activity into their daily lives.
California Department of Education offers and generously sponsored by Produce Marketing Association resources to assist with teaching nutrition education in the classroom and throughout the school community. Information appropriate for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, grades 1-3, grades 4-6, and middle and high school.
The Dairy Council of California offers free nutrition education and physical activity materials to California teachers for grades K-12. They are research-based and support California language and math state standards. Training is available for California teachers. Click here to sign up.
