Health Education Materials and Toolkits

The Center of Excellence for Training and Research Translation offers a variety of web-based trainings designed specifically for public health practitioners working in nutrition, physical activity, obesity and chronic disease prevention programs. 

The Food and Nutrition Information Center (FNIC) launched the Interactive DRI for Healthcare Professionals, a new online tool that calculates an individual’s daily nutrient recommendations based on the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs). This tool is intended to be used by healthcare professionals who may have an interest in using these values for dietary planning purposes. The Interactive DRI for Healthcare Professionals puts individual nutrient recommendations at the fingertips of those professionals who can help consumers interpret and use these DRI values to guide healthy dietary behaviors.

Body Basics: An Adolescent Provider Toolkit by the CA Dept. of Health Services offers information for adolescent healthcare providers on nutrition, physical activity, body image, overweight and eating disorders. Includes screening and assessment tools, office interventions and counseling guidelines, information and tip sheets, health education materials for teens and parents, and resources and referrals.

"The California Food Guide (CFG): Fulfilling the Dietary Guidelines for Americans" provides new information for health professionals on nutrition and physical activity. The CFG is primarily designed as a nutrition or training manual. It can be used by health professionals such as public health nutritionists, registered dietitians, physicians, nursing staff, health educators, and other community based health professionals. Since CFG is available on the web it can also be accessed by the general public. Food industry may also use CFG for new product development, promotional efforts, and consumer services. Academic organizations may also find the guide helpful as an educational tool.
